Why Every Landlord Needs an EICR in 2025

EICRs: keeping you and your property safe.

As a landlord in the UK, keeping your property electrically safe isn't just a good idea – it's the law. From April 2021, all rental properties must have a valid Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) renewed every 5 years. With 2025 underway, many EICRs issued when the regulation came in are now up for renewal.

At Caversham Electrical, we've helped dozens of landlords across Reading and Caversham stay compliant, safe, and stress-free. An EICR checks your fixed wiring, sockets, lighting and fuse boards to make sure everything meets modern safety standards. If we find any issues, we'll advise on the best course of action.

Whether you rent out a single flat or manage a portfolio of homes, book your EICR early and avoid last-minute hassles.

Thinking of Installing an EV Charger at Home?

Here's what you need to know.

With more UK drivers switching to electric vehicles, home EV chargers are quickly becoming a must-have. At Caversham Electrical, we install safe, efficient EV charging points for homes and businesses throughout Reading and the Thames Valley.

Installing a home EV charger gives you faster charging, lower energy costs, and total convenience. We handle the installation from start to finish – including load checks, smart options, and grant advice.

Top tip: always use a qualified, approved electrician. EV chargers draw high current and need correct installation to avoid risks.

5 Signs Your Fuse Board Needs an Upgrade

Just because it 'works' doesn't mean it's safe.

Your fuse board (also known as a consumer unit) is the heart of your home's electrical system. If it's outdated or overloaded, it could be putting your property and safety at risk. Here are five signs it might be time to upgrade:

  1. You still have a fuse box with wire fuses.
  2. Frequent tripping or flickering lights.
  3. No RCD protection (this shuts off power during a fault).
  4. You've recently renovated or extended your home.
  5. Burning smells or scorch marks.

Modern consumer units offer better protection and are required for many insurance and safety standards. If you're unsure, Caversham Electrical offers free assessments and quotes for new fuse board installations in Reading and beyond.
